Using The "Light" Touch to Your Advantage

Updated Saturday, February 16, 2013  ::  Views (2510)

Obviously, when you’re ready to show your house to potential buyers, you will want it to look its best. What’s the fastest and easiest wayto do that? Let in the light!  By ensuring your home is well lit, you can make every room look more appealing.

Natural light is ideal because it has the added effect of making everything seem warmer and bigger.  So, when showing your house, make sure all the curtains and blinds are open.  Unless they’re critical to the décor, reposition things that are obstructing the windows.  These may include ornaments, plants or even furniture.

If you have a skylight, clear away any leaves or other debris.  During a viewing or open house, make sure all the main lights are turned on.  If there are any dark corners or nooks in your home, add an attractive lamp.

In key areas such as the kitchen and basement, consider installing higher wattage bulbs.  Just don’t overdo it.  Lights should be bright and pleasing, not blinding!  Giving each room the “light” touch will make your home show better.  It will make it more comfortable to live in, too.
